Politically-Challenged: Texas Tech
It’s cringe worthy. It’s terrifying for Poli-Sci majors. It’s yet another viral video that showcases the stereotypes of us Millennials.
Poli-Tech, a political organization at Texas Tech University, took to their campus to ask students general question about politics and our government system. What ensues leaves us speechless — and not in the “Have you seen this picture of Dylan O’Brian?” kind of way.
What makes viewers momentarily dumbfounded is that these students are unable to answer questions that one may consider common knowledge.
I think we can agree it’s pretty embarrassing that they don’t know who our current vice president is. But when I say it’s embarrassing, it’s not just for ‘them’ in a sense that I’m different or better, but it can be for our culture as a whole.
Well, okay. It’s easy to explain why a lot of us aren’t exactly politically informed. It’s because downloading the new One Direction album while discussing the lives of the Kardashians is a much more sexy conversation than examining the US-led coalition to take down ISIS.
So instead of sharing this video as a way to laugh and say, “How could they be so dense?” perhaps it should be shared to be a wake up call to remind us the importance of knowledge.
In the words of Henry Ford, “Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.” So while we may not know everything there is to know about everytopic, this video can serve as a reminder. A reminder than even if your major is biology or advertising, you shouldn’t limit your education to that realm! #TheMoreYouKnow
