Study Abroad: When The Tough Gets Goin'
Week 3: Maddy Becomes A Chef
Girls don't like boys--girls like cars and money.
Well, if the boys are Danish we do. And instead of cars, we like chocolate. And the money, well, yeah the money part can stay. Gotta get myself a tour of Italy so, yeah, money is nice.
Now back to the chocolate. I've done a few chocolate runs this week with the Gals (proper noun because they're ~proper mates~). This is a way of rewarding myself for eating my bad cooking. idk why, but I guess I've never done much cooking before. But when take out costs an average of $15, Darwinism kicks in and you haul ass to the kitchen.
That's what I feel a lot of this week has been. Me just kinda figuring out how to live in Copenhagen. The whirlwind of my first week died down if only slightly and everyone is adjusting to their new schedules. Just the same, it's been another marvelous time.
Are you ready for some football? Denmark was. Studenterhuset had a great Super Bowl Sunday turn out complete with "Nachos" which were actually just Doritos and some interesting vegan bean dip.
With kickoff at 12:30am, we waited for the opportunity to gawk at the real star of halftime--Beyoncé--then headed out. A peaceful bike ride home with Sam and Bri at 3:20am was a surreal moment when I realized just how lucky I am and how lovely my time abroad will be.
Tuesday was crepe night on my floor. We learned Shivam is a rising Insta star and selfie sticks are still all the rage.
Thursday, Winnie and I decided to burn off all the chocolate with a bike ride to the beach and a funky park in Nørrebro. I got really cute pics of Winnie so I'm not even sorry for posting them all.
Friday was full of culture. And friends. We hit up the National Gallery of Denmark on a whim and got to celebrate the news of Winnie receiving a scholarship which also means she gets to meet a real life princess. After that, hundred year old paintings just didn't hold up to our level of "Holy shit you're meeting royalty, Win" excitement.
We bid farvel to Charlotte and went to the Faculty of Humanities pub crawl. This pub crawl happened entirely on-campus because OF COURSE the Humanities campus has not one, not two, but seven (I think) bars. There was a round of a bizarre game called the "Beer Run" where you race to your bottle, chug it, spin around it ten times, then race back. I hadn't even gotten halfway done with my bottle before the first kid sprinted back. Still, a Danish culture experience none the less.
See, mom and dad? I'm learning real smart things.
We moved onto much more sophisticated pastimes on Saturday, such as Kings Cup and crashing other dorm parties.
The little Green Man was present as well as bomb sausage wraps. We crashed the Tietgen Kollegiet which for you non-Københavnites is the Michelle Obama arms of KU dorms. It was groovy and they have their own dance club. As Taryn perfectly said it, "it felt like we were in a music video."
Feelin' the sweet sweet love of a hangover, we celebrated Valentine's Day European style with wine & cheese. It went well and we're all v proud of Robbie for getting the gang together. ❤️
I'm excited to put this passport to use and travel to Berlin this next weekend. I'll tell you all about it next week, ya filthy animals.
