Study Abroad: Another Day Another Destiny
Week 2: Max Keibler's Big Move
The thing about living in a country where you don't know the primary language is that multiple times in a day you have to have the awkward shuffle of asking "Do you speak English?"
It will always start with "Hej!" (Pronounced 'hi') To which I happily reply "Hej!" Wait two beats, then "...May I have a small latte, please? 😬"
I'll get over it. But what I can't get over (lol) is how chill my dorm turned out to be. I finally moved in last Monday and I love it. It's like being a freshman again where everyone leaves their door open and has the mantra of "the more the merrier!"
Then on Monday, like I said, I moved into my cute lil studio with the help of dad.
That night I became friends with Charlotte and Winnie who are both in my hall. Both Aussies, both s'cute. We're going to Berlin next weekend☺️
Mike@mikemasterson.com left Copenhagen the next day. I would say it was a sad day, but it wasn't. He'll be back soon enough and I had major groundwork to lay in the friendship department--which tbh is the easiest most fun thing to when you're studying abroad.
That Tuesday night we attempted to see a free "traditional Scandinavian" concert but it reached max capacity when we were about 30 people away. Mind you, we were waiting outside at 8pm in Copenhagen in February.
My favorite part was when this one guy was exiting the venue and yelled "IT'S SERIOUSLY NOT WORTH IT, GUYS. SAVE YOURSELVES."
It's cool though, I became friends with people in line. Including Sam, who I learned is a fan of American politics and seems to be "feeling the Bern". Laney, you'd like Sam.
My week was all about getting settled in therein. Unpacking, decorating, getting books and all that jazz. When in line for what is basically my temporary citizen card, I met Brooke (!!!) who goes to Wisconsin and started naming all these girls I went to high school with. Apparently they're in her sorority and she has an extensive knowledge on Chicagoland area high schools.
Friday was a really great day. I hung out with my main, Winnie, and we got myself a bike! It's fabulous and I feel fabulous when I'm riding it, so absolutely no buyers remorse here ayy
Then I went out with Bri and Rachael wahooo! I learned Rachael is the best dancer ever and should be on that famous New Zealand dance team.
Saturday was complete with a potluck and dancing it off all night. By far my favorite night here so far.
So, anyway, yeah. 10 out of 10, would recommend. Excited for many more weeks in "Dopenhagen" as Brooke would call it.
Catch you next week, ya filthy animals.
